6. Clayton Richard, McCutcheon (1999-2002)
Richard may just be the most recognizable name on this list. In Indiana, that鈥檚 partly because of football, but throughout the rest of the country, it鈥檚 thanks to his eventual MLB career. In high school, Richard was a star quarterback at McCutcheon, throwing for 10,777 yards during his prep career on the gridiron. In his senior year, he was named both Mr. Football and Mr. Baseball in the Hoosier State.
A four-star quarterback coming out of high school, Richard committed to Michigan to play both football and baseball. While he would lose out on a starting quarterback bid with the Wolverines to Chad Henne, Richard excelled on the baseball diamond. He was selected by the Chicago White Sox in the eighth round of the 2005 MLB Draft, and went on to have a successful career in the pros that spanned all the way to 2019. Richard had a career 4.51 ERA across stints with the White Sox, San Diego Padres, Chicago Cubs and Toronto Blue Jays. He is now back home in Indiana as the head coach of the Lafayette Jefferson baseball team, and quarterbacks coach of the school鈥檚 football team.聽
