Murtha and high school teammate Nate Swift helped the Hutchinson Tigers to the 2004 Class 4A state title game and were the first Minnesota prep football players to sign with Nebraska since 1995. Murtha went on to have a four-year career with the Cornhuskers and was a 2007 and 2008 All-Big 12 honorable mention, and was drafted by the Detroit Lions in 2009.聽
