Rumson-Fair Haven baseball wins NJSIAA Central Group 2 championship
RUMSON, N.J. — On June 2nd, 2023, the NJSIAA Central Group 2 championship between Rumson-Fair Haven Baseball and Spotswood ended with an exciting 8-3 victory for the RFH Bulldogs. Rumson has grown into one of the most reliable schools in the state and is often seen in the final weeks of the postseason in New Jersey. The Bulldogs have finished with precisely 22 victories in each baseball season over the last three years.
Rising Junior Parker Shenman continues his successful season by scoring the first run of the game. Shenman showed his strength even as an underclassman in previous games against Holmdel, Monmouth Regional, and St. Rose and earned Player of the Week by Ocean County Sports Medicine.
During the game, RFH used their successful pitching formula from the season. The strategy consisted of starting senior pitchers John Goodes and Jackson Hinchliffe and moving on to valuable players like Owen O鈥橳oole, Matt Bruno, Cal Champeau, and Jackson Gallagher. John Goodes pitched the first 3 1/3 innings, tossing 75 pitches while giving up one run on four hits, striking out three batters, and walking six.
Turning things over, Jackson Hinchliffe threw 20 pitches over 1 2/3 innings, retiring all five batters he faced with three strikeouts. O鈥橳oole and Bruno finished the game with accomplishments of 4 strikeouts and 40 pitches between each other. Rumson-Fair Haven High School won the title for the second time in a row as NJSIAA Central Group 2 Champion, defeating Wall last year.
The Bulldogs, who earned their third sectional championship overall, versed Seneca in a Group 2 quarterfinal on Monday, June 5th, where they were just short of victory. Rumson-Fair Haven has proved their significance in the state and will return for more outstanding performances in the 2023-2024 season.
