Angel Lebron earns first win of his professional career with Sioux Falls Canaries

PARKVILLE, Mo. — Park University’s Angel Lebron under a month ago threw his last pitches off the hill at Comfort Field. Since then he made his professional debut in the American Baseball Association on Monday.

Lebron made a quick transition to the professional ranks after graduation and signed with the Canaries in Sioux Falls, S.D. just this week.

When asked about signing his professional baseball contract he said, “having an opportunity of playing professional baseball is a dream come true for me because since I was five years old, I always told my dad that I will play pro ball.”

That dream became a reality on Monday night as the 185-pound lefty was called upon to pitch against the Sioux City Explorers, who have the best record in the league at 9-3 so far this season.

Lebron threw three innings in relief and got the win. Lebron came in to the game in the third inning with a one run lead, 4-3, and the Explorers were shutout the rest of the game for the victory.

Lebron faced 12 batters and only allowed two hits and two walks in three innings. He proceeded to strikeout the last two batters he faced before handing the ball off to the bullpen.
It is fitting for Lebron to leave the field on a strikeout as he holds the Park all-time career record for strikeouts with 186 over five seasons.

Following his outing, Lebron shared, “When I got my opportunity to throw in the game and I got my first professional strikeout and my first win, I cannot express the level of happiness I was feeling at that moment. Thanks to God, my family, and the Park University baseball coaching staff, I am here playing professional baseball”.

Head Coach Cary Lundy commented that “Angel was one of the hardest workers we have ever had. This was a goal of his and he had some setbacks along the way which only drove him even more. He earned this opportunity to play pro ball. We are happy to see him sign with the Canaries and it was fun to see his success in his professional debut”.

The Canaries are currently 5-8 on the season and are traveling to Manitoba, Canada to face the Winnipeg Goldeyes in a three-game series Friday through Sunday.
