Georgia HS QB named No. 1 recruit by ESPN: Next CJ Stroud?

ATHENS, Ga. (BVM) – Julian Lewis is now ranked by ESPN as the No. 1 overall college football recruit in the nation – regardless of high school graduating class (2024-26).

In other words, Lewis – who is a 15-year-old freshman QB in the Class of 2026 – is viewed as the best overall high school football player across the Class of 2024 (current juniors), Class of 2025 (current sophomores) and all the rest in the current freshman class.

Notably, from (released Tuesday), Lewis is just one of four players from the Class of 2026 to make the list. Additionally, six are in the Class of 2025 and 15 are in the Class of 2024.

ESPN also compared Lewis to C.J. Stroud – the former Ohio State star QB who was picked No. 2 overall in the 2023 NFL Draft. Even legendary quarterback trainer Quincy Avery, who worked with top QBs including Jalen Hurts and Justin Fields, previously stated that Lewis is drawing comparisons to Stroud.

“[Lewis] is so reminiscent of a lot of the guys I’ve worked with before,” Avery said on the back in November. “Either like C.J. Stroud a little bit, you see a little Deshaun [Watson] in him.”

made him a great candidate for the grand comparisons and his newly-found No. 1 ranking. With Carrollton High School (GA) this past freshman season (2022-23), Lewis completed 65% of his passes for over 4,000 yards and 48 touchdowns.

“[Lewis] is as smooth and fluid as they come and cool under pressure,” according to ESPN’s top 25 list. “At 6 feet, 185 pounds, he’s advanced physically and plays with the maturity level of a senior. Lewis has terrific anticipation and ball placement. Few players have performed at his level as a varsity freshman starter. A Georgia state championship loss did not dampen the season for Lewis, who threw for a state final-record 532 passing yards and five touchdowns.”

It’s no surprise why Lewis already has an offer from the back-to-back national champions, the Georgia Bulldogs. He also has dozens of more offers, including from Alabama, Ohio State, Michigan, Tennessee, Penn State and

Many can recall that Lewis was receiving college offers as an 8th grader last year. When Lewis was in the 8th grade, his QB coach Ron Veal said, “His biggest attribute is throwing the ball on time and his accuracy.”

Interestingly enough, hasn’t ranked Lewis yet. But, his future as a five-star recruit is inevitable, and through it all, he remains humble. Last year, he said he was “shocked” by the D-I offers, and this most recent season, he noted that he’s still trying to adjust to his national stardom.

“A little bit, [but] not really though,” Lewis said in November when asked if he adjusted to the extra attention. “Everything in Carrollton helps keep you humble and holds you accountable. I’m a regular kid at the end of the day.”

While Lewis’s hype is already quite national ( and ), there’s still a high possibility that he’ll stay home and lead the Georgia Dawgs someday.
