Casey Thompson enters transfer portal; 5 landing spots for QB
4. Penn State
Thompson played under head coach Tom Herman during his four years at Texas. When Herman was dismissed prior to the 2021 season, most of his coaching staff also departed for greener pastures. This included offensive coordinator Mike Yurchich, who joined the staff at Penn State. He is still serving as the Nittany Lions play-caller and the team could use some more experience in the quarterbacks room.
Currently, the Nittany Lions have three quarterbacks on the roster with true sophomore Drew Allar being the oldest in the room. Given the team鈥檚 lack of experience at the position and Thompson鈥檚 Big Ten experience, he may be an appealing candidate. However, expectations for Drew Allar are high in Happy Valley as he was the No. 2 overall quarterback in the Class of 2022. Penn State may be more intrigued by the youthful upside of Allar rather than a known veteran like Thompson at this point.
