Meet King鈥檚 Ridge JV dance team head coach Anna Check
ALPHARETTA, Ga. — Coach Anna Check has been coaching dance for eight years. Last year, she was the assistant dance coach for King鈥檚 Ridge Varsity Tigerettes. Now she is the head coach for the newly founded JV team!
鈥淚 am so honored to be the first head coach,鈥� Check says. Check was nominated by a King鈥檚 Ridge parent whose daughter is on the JV dance team. The parent reached out to us about how grateful she is for the new middle school dance team that Check formed. 鈥淚 would not have the success I have today without the amazing community of King鈥檚 Ridge Christian School. The parents and teachers at this school make coming to work and being involved in the school a pleasure. I love watching KRCS grow and I am grateful to call myself a member of this community,鈥� Check commented.
Check grew up dancing. As a young girl she danced at RISPA dance studio in Milton. She was on RISPA鈥檚 first and original competition team. Check danced in college on the Georgia College & State University dance team. She continued to be a part of the GCSU dance team while studying to get her Master鈥檚 in education. After completing graduate school, she began coaching with King鈥檚 Ridge Christian School. 鈥淢y constant support is Annie Dietz, who is the Fine Arts Academy Dance Coordinator. Throughout everything Annie has been a huge help. I look up to her as a person and as a leader and hope to work with her for a long time,鈥� she says.
This is an exciting year for the JV team. 鈥淪ince this is the team鈥檚 founding year, everything has been super memorable for us! I think the most memorable part of the entire season has to be us going to our first competition鈥� she says. The girls are supportive towards each other and help each other out with their hair and makeup. 鈥淚 have loved watching the girls work together and share a new experience as a team. It was the perfect moment of fun and team bonding!鈥� Some of her most proud coaching moments have been witnessing the love and support the girls show each other during and after the competitions. 鈥淎fter the girls performed at one of the JV basketball games, they were so encouraging of each other, congratulating their teammates on a great performance. That was a testimony to their character, something that goes beyond the performance!鈥�
Check says the key to their success as a team is their focus. Their focus and priority are their strong faith. 鈥淲e recognize at KRCS that our talents come from God, and we owe Him all our success on and off the stage. The second key is learning how to be an effective teammate so we can all work and dance together!鈥� Check understands disappointments are going to happen, but leans on her faith to get them through those struggles. 鈥淲e can always trust that God has a plan for us and He never lets us down. I also see losses as a learning experience and something that is necessary to make winning a result of hard work,鈥� she says.
Check wants her girls to know how proud she is of them. 鈥淵ou girls should be proud to be part of the founding team at this school. I hope that you always love and appreciate dance and remember that it takes an athlete to dance, but an artist to be a dancer!鈥� We look forward to hearing more about the JV dance team鈥檚 success at KRCS and how they grow through the years!
