Grading college basketball’s 10 biggest coaching hires
Texas: Rodney Terry
When Beard was fired in January, it was impossible to know what to expect from Texas for the rest of the season. If the team completely fell apart, no one would have been surprised. But instead, they surged and in large part to Terry. After a run to the Elite Eight, it was a no-brainer decision to keep him permanently.
Part of the reason why Terry had immediate success could be because of his head coaching experience. After stints at Fresno State and UTEP, he joined the Longhorns’ staff in 2021. While many thought he would get another opportunity at a lead gig, no one expected that to be at Texas in the fashion that it unfolded.
Rodney Terry arrives to a standing ovation as he is named head coach at Texas.
