What are your personal goals within your sport/athletic dreams?

Ryan Lock: I don鈥檛 have any specific goals regarding my athletics after high school. I plan on attending college. If they have a bowling program I would be interested in joining it, but it won鈥檛 influence my decision on where I attend.

What is your biggest challenge in your sport, and what do you do to manage this challenge?

Lock: My biggest challenge is staying focused and not giving up on myself. Just keeping a positive attitude/mentality when I鈥檓 competing and doing the best I can helps me manage this challenge.

What was the best advice you were ever given?

Lock: To do things for myself. Just to put passion into the things I do and make sure that I put my full effort into whatever it is that I鈥檓 trying to achieve.

What do you love about your sport?

Lock: I love competing with other bowlers and other teams. I like pushing myself to be the best bowler I can be.

Do you have a pregame ritual you follow?

Lock: Not really, just going over expectations with my teammates and trying to establish our goals and discussing what we鈥檙e going to do in order to accomplish those goals.

What do you like to do outside of your sport?

Lock: I like to spend time with my family, hang out with my friends, and play other sports, mainly basketball and baseball.

What has being a member of a team taught you?

Lock: Being a member of a team has taught me that I need to be willing to accept help from others and willing to help my teammates in order to be the best team member that I can be.

What is the best piece of advice you received from a coach or mentor?

Lock: To not be too hard on myself. There would be times I would get in my own head, and having someone remind me that bowling is a team sport, and that everyone impacts the team鈥檚 performance equally helped clear my mind and not get overwhelmed.

Describe a mistake you made while competing and how you overcame it.

Lock: There have been times I鈥檝e been pulled and had one of my teammates come in because I was bowling poorly. When that happens, I make sure I reflect on what I was doing wrong, watch how others are bowling and try to take in as much information as I can so that when I鈥檓 able to get put back in I can use what I鈥檝e observed to help myself out.

Anything else you鈥檇 like to add:

Lock: Throughout my time in bowling, there鈥檚 been a lot of people who have helped me improve tremendously. Bowling is one of my favorite things to do, in the last 2 years I鈥檝e begun helping coach the middle school bowling team. Bowling is a really good sport because it鈥檚 something that everyone can do.
