But basketball was not the only thing that was big in the household. His father, Courtney Sr., played over the course of four seasons in the NFL with the Raiders, Falcons and Lions. The tight end racked up a total of 43 career games.
Courtney has been able to grow up with a father who made it to the highest levels in his profession, something he hopes to do one day.
“He’s a great resource,” the younger Anderson said. “It’s good to have someone that’s been through it all and to have that guidance.”
Courtney’s father was a big help in terms of the recruiting process, a situation that can tend to be strenuous for a high schooler.
“It was stressful towards the end when it picks up and gets more serious,” Anderson said. “But at first it’s really fun and you enjoy everything that happens to you.”
Anderson started receiving attention from colleges as just a sophomore and began to wonder just how far he could go with the game.
“I started to think, ‘Maybe I can be a Division I basketball player,’” Anderson said. “As a kid, you dream about it, but once it starts to become a reality, it’s a surreal feeling.”
When he got towards the end of his recruitment, the Buffaloes made the most sense for him. Anderson came to this realization during a visit to Boulder. Speaking with alums at a basketball game, he got to hear their testimony on how special the university is.
“They were just telling me how much they enjoyed it and enjoyed their experience there,” Anderson said.
Anderson opted in officially in November, signing with the school.

“When I signed my letter of intent, I felt like I had made it,” Anderson said. “All my hard work and all the time I put in really paid off.”
But outside of that, the school made sense from an on-the-court perspective as well.
“When they were breaking down their play style, I felt like my play style fit there the best,” Anderson said.

One guy’s play style that Anderson tries to emulate at the NBA level is Bradley Beal. Similarly to the three-time All-Star, the high school senior is an athletic, natural scorer.
“He’s around my size,” Anderson said. “The way he gets to his spots is very unique.”
Anderson is a unique player himself, one with aspirations of bringing Dublin High School its first North Coast Section title before starting his college career at Colorado.
