Ranking the 2023 Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame finalists
10. Jennifer Azzi
Azzi did a little bit of everything as a player. With the Stanford Cardinal, Azzi was named the 1990 Naismith College Player of the Year and Wade Trophy after leading her team to an NCAA title where she was also named the tournament’s most outstanding player.
Following her college days, Azzi excelled internationally, winning a gold medal in the 1996 Olympic Games and the 1990 and ’98 FIBA World Championships while playing four seasons abroad. After her professional career overseas, Azzi co-founded the American Basketball League, where she was a three-time All-Star before playing five years in the WNBA.
While Azzi had an unquestionably great career, her lack of recognition in the WNBA may impact her advancement as that is considered the top level of women’s basketball in the world.
