Catching up with Wright State basketball player, Chillicothe alum Brandon Noel
CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — As the calendar starts to push a little closer to March, I know local sports fans start to think a little more about the madness of college basketball. This topic is extremely exciting no matter who is playing, but one tournament team from last year – Wright State University – has some local flavor playing a huge role this season in 2020 Chillicothe graduate Brandon Noel.
Through the first 23 games of the season, Noel is second on the team in scoring with an average of 13 points per game, leads the Raiders in rebounding with eight boards per contest,聽 and also in blocks with 22 total on the season. Perhaps the most impressive thing is the efficiency in which he has showcased this season. Noel, who has made 62% of his field goal attempts, leads the team in FG%, and he shoots 37% from three and 76% from the free throw line.
Another exciting thing for Noel and his potential is the fact he is just playing in what is considered his redshirt freshman season. This will give him three more chances to play a college basketball season.
Wright State will look to make another special postseason run in late February when they take the court in the Horizon League Championship. The winner of that tournament earns an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
In a look back to Brandon鈥檚 high school days wearing the Blue & White for the Chillicothe Cavaliers, he was an All-Ohio First Team selection in Division I. He helped lead Chillicothe to a pair of Frontier Athletic Conference championships. Brandon scored over 1,000 career points in his high school career.
In talking to Brandon鈥檚 high school coach Eric Huffer, the former Chilicothe head coach continues to be so proud of his former player.
鈥淲e are all proud of Brandon here at Chillicothe High School,鈥 said Huffer. 鈥淚 believe what has made Brandon great all these years is his attention to put in the extra work that goes unseen. Whether it鈥檚 early or late night basketball workouts, getting outstanding grades in high school and now college, or by genuinely caring for others, Brandon isn鈥檛 just a complete basketball player – he is a complete person. I knew he would do great things at Wright State, but I鈥檓 proud of the young man he continues to become off the court.鈥
