His family was displaced due to Hurricane Katrina, and he returned to win Louisiana Gatorade Football Player of the Year in 2011. He was the first lineman and third defender in 16 years to win the award. Johnson continued his athletic career at LSU, racking up 77 tackles and was named second-team All-SEC honors.聽
