Meet Pope John girls basketball player Addy Platt
SPARTA, N.J. — Freshman Addy Platt has been one of the key players in helping the 2022-2023 Pope John Lions girls鈥� basketball team have a dominant season.
Platt has come into the program and proved that she can and will be a leader of the team as it continues to progress towards winning games. Platt and her freshmen teammates are the future of the girls鈥� basketball program at Pope John XXII Regional High School and it looks like that will be a great thing.
Platt began playing basketball at a young age, officially beginning to play AAU (Amateur Athletic Union) ball when she was in 6th grade. From there, the game amazed and awed her so much that she has continued into high school to play with Pope John麓s girls鈥� basketball team.
Platt entered her freshman season with many goals in mind, but one stood out the most which was to make an impact on the team.
篓I wanted to make an impact on the team; to help make the team better in any way I could,篓 said Platt. 篓I feel like the team has improved a lot since the beginning, and I want to see us continue to be connected as one family because that’s how we can continue our success.篓
Being a family on and off the court is a big reason why the team has had an incredible season, Platt explained.
篓Before games, we have team dinners, and we麓re all really close with one another,鈥� said Platt. 篓We joke around, and it’s a really fun environment to be around.篓
Platt麓s skills aren’t just noticed by the students and spectators at games; they are noticed by her senior teammates as well. Senior Maddie Rento sees how hard Platt works day in and day out to earn her spot on a very strong varsity team.
篓Coming in, she’s been a strong player, and she’s started from the first game,鈥� said Rento. 篓She麓s contributing, statistically, very well, and it’s nice to have such strong talent coming in at young age.篓
Her freshmen teammates also see the great potential that Platt has to be a good leader of the team in the coming years.
篓I see her having great potential as she continues her basketball career,篓 said freshman Mia Washington. 篓She will be a great leader, and it starts now when she is helping all of us be better players and people.篓
Platt is still a couple of years away from college, but she wants to continue playing basketball for however many years she can play the game.
篓I love basketball; it’s my favorite thing to do, and I really enjoy the game,篓 said Platt.
Platt is ready to take on any challenge that may come her way and, with her teammates by her side, the Pope John girls鈥� basketball program is now set to be great.
