Get to know Lovejoy lacrosse player Jack Campbell
LUCAS, Texas — Jack Campbell has participated in baseball, football, and wrestling, but lacrosse is the sport that he enjoys. He became involved in the sport while his family was living in North Carolina when he was about seven years old.
While he has mainly played attack with a brief stint as a goalie, he now holds the position of FOGO, otherwise known as Face Off Get Off. This is an extremely specific position that means: winning the face-off, giving the ball to a teammate, and then getting off the field. This position is reserved for especially dominant players who help lead their team in maintaining possession of the ball. While the position is a strategic one, the player can stay on the field and continue the offensive.
Over the course of eleven years in the sport, he has played on various teams including: Iron Horse, Sentry, Oilers, and the Lovejoy Leopards. While many players have defined goals in sports, Jack said he just, 鈥淩eally wants to have fun, be with my friends, and win a bunch of faceoffs for my team!鈥�
The best advice Jack has received has turned into his motto: Control the controllables. It is a motto that helps simplify issues, whether it is a technical or emotional aspect that crops up during a game. He just has to focus on controlling what he is able to control and let go of everything else.
While he enjoys the physicality of the game, he really enjoys being able to hang out with his teammates and the support system they are for each other.
When Jack is not practicing or playing Lacrosse he enjoys duck hunting with friends and also has a lawn mowing business that has evolved from his interest in plants and landscaping. Playing a team sport has taught him time management which has rolled over into his work life as he has learned how to properly schedule his time for his lawn management business.
Although he does not have plans to play Lacrosse at the collegiate level, he might not rule out picking up a game here or there of collegiate intramural sports, when he has a break in his studies.
