Middletown volleyball players Darden and Pryor sign with colleges

MIDDLETOWN, Md. — 鈥淚t’s the first time in our program history that we have had two from the same class sign to play collegiate ball,” said Middletown High School Head Volleyball Coach Jaime Pryor, referring to her two volleyball captains, Carlee Darden and Jordan Pryor, who have signed to play with Stevenson and Shepherd, respectively.

Carlee Darden has played volleyball for about ten years, having started on recreational teams, and then eventually playing club and high school ball. She said, 鈥淚t has always been volleyball. I tried other sports and just wasn鈥檛 interested. I love how volleyball can be so back-and-forth and be so intense.鈥

Carlee has committed to play for Stevenson University. She said, 鈥淚 chose Stevenson because they have a very strong volleyball team, and I really like the coach there. I am looking forward to playing with the group of girls there now.鈥

Carlee plays volleyball year-round, leaving little time for other activities. She is involved in teaching first grade children at Middletown Primary School and works an internship with young children at Creative Children Center. She plans to study early childhood education.

Jordan Pryor has played club volleyball since she was seven years old. She said, 鈥淚 also did track and cross country when I was younger, and have tried multiple other sports, but when I got into my teens, I started focusing on volleyball and beach volleyball. It is just fun, and I like that it鈥檚 a team sport and you have to work together to be successful. Also, many great bonds and friendships have come from it.鈥

Jordan is also currently playing unified bocce, which she said is fun. She also participates in a few school clubs, including Fellowship of Christian Athletes. Jordan was recently selected as the 2022 Heisman High School Scholarship School Winner for MHS.

Jordan has committed to play for Shepherd University. She said, 鈥淚 chose Shepherd because their program seems to be a good fit for me, and I believe the coach will make me into a better player. At first, I wanted to play beach down south , somewhere warm. However, I am actually very happy that I am staying close, so I can visit my family and friends, and it鈥檚 a lot more convenient than being far away would be.鈥

Jordan has not yet chosen her field of study, but she is considering early education or physical education.
