Q&A with Rowan volleyball player Brooke Adams

GLASSBORO, N.J. — In November 2022, Rowan University sophomore Brooke Adams was honored with the Philly SIDA Academic All-Area Team Award for her academic excellence and outstanding achievements off the court. She is a sophomore in her second year as a setter for the Profs Women’s Volleyball Team.

She is the latest Prof to make history by reaching 2000 career assists —  2132 assists, to be exact… and only as a sophomore.

10 Questions With RU Volleyball Stand Out, Brooke Adams:

What are your personal goals within your sport/athletic dreams?

Brooke Adams: My personal goals had always been to pursue volleyball in college and be an impact on my team. Now that I have reached the collegiate level, my goals continue to evolve with each different season.

What is your biggest challenge in your sport, and what do you do to manage this challenge?

Adams: Since I am a setter, I have a huge role on the court, so my greatest challenge is always making sure I put my hitters in the best possible position. I need to take the first ball and make it into a hittable ball no matter where it is. This isn’t always easy because it’s also important to know each of my hitters and what they like, so there is always a lot going through my head during any given play.

What was the best advice you were ever given?

Adams: To tune out the voices around me that aren’t working to build me up.

Do you have a saying or motto that you like to live by?

Adams: Opportunities don’t happen, you create them.

What do you love about your sport?

Adams: I love that volleyball is a team sport and you can’t win a game without everyone working together. I think the constant need for team chemistry helps everyone grow closer on and off the court.

What do you like to do outside of your sport?

Adams: I enjoy reading when I’m not practicing or doing homework. I am  a tour guide at Rowan University as well as an athlete.

How would you describe your personality?

Adams: Goal-oriented and driven.

What is your favorite song or music/artist to get you ready for a game?

Adams: ‘Heads will Roll’ was our pregame song this past season.

Do you have a pregame ritual?

Adams: This season, I started doing some visualization before every game, and it has helped me a lot with my headspace going into a game.

What has being a member of a team taught you?

Adams: Being a member of a team has taught me that it is okay to fail because I am surrounded by a group of girls who will always have my back.
