Meet JSerra Catholic softball player Reese Ferrel
SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO, Calif. — Meet Reese Ferrel, a 15-year-old lefty slapper who made varsity as a freshman for JSerra High School鈥檚 softball team. Reese is a spunky, super-fast, straight-A student with a batting average of 400!
Reese was born in Phoenix, AZ, but has lived in Orange County since she was eight. She is in the law magnet program at JSerra and hopes to attend law school after college. Reese explains, 鈥淚 chose JSerra because of the law magnet program. A lot of my teachers are retired attorneys and former district attorneys. I love the mock trials we do, and the curriculum keeps me busy. I prioritize what needs to be done: I wake up early and stay up late doing my homework.鈥
A San Juan Capistrano resident, Reese plays for her JSerra softball team and the OC Batbusters, a nationally recognized powerhouse. She trains seven days a week and plays all year long for both teams. When Reese isn鈥檛 practicing at JSerra, she鈥檚 working out and conditioning at STC (Sports Training Complex), a training facility in Anaheim near Angel Stadium.
Last year, JSerra demonstrated a solid performance, taking third in the Trinity League, playing against schools such as Mater Dei and Orange Lutheran. They made it to the CIF (California Interscholastic Federation) in 2022鈥攆or the first time since 2007! Reese is a versatile and relentless addition to both of her teams.
鈥淢y goal is to play softball and study political science undergrad, then go to law school,鈥 says Reese, adding, 鈥淚 have to stay laser-focused to attain my goals.鈥
In her brief moments of spare time, Reese loves riding ATVs in the desert with her family. Her brother, who played college baseball, is now a high school coach in Oregon and loves to watch Reese play softball when he鈥檚 in town. Her parents, Edward and Laura Ferrell, could not be prouder and spend most of their time (also limited) driving Reese to practices and games.
Reese shares, 鈥淧laying sports at this level is a sacrifice I鈥檓 willing to make. I miss out on a lot of things that my friends get to do, but being concentrated in a sport teaches me how to overcome difficulties in my life, both on and off the field.鈥
Softball is extremely competitive in Orange County, and Reese is up for any challenge. Please give her a pat on the back if you see her at a JSerra softball game!
