Q&A with Liberty County HS football player Demarai Booker
HINESVILLE, Ga. — Congratulations to senior defensive tackle, Demarai Booker #5, who the Liberty County High School Panthers placed on the all-region first team defense. At the age of 18, James has played football for six years and has also participated in basketball.
We thought you would enjoy learning more about him by asking him a few questions.
What are your personal goals within your sport/athletic dreams?聽聽
Demarai Booker: I want to make it to the league.
What is your biggest challenge in your sport, and what do you do to manage this challenge?聽
Booker: I get nervous before games a lot but once I hit someone, it immediately goes away.
What was the best advice you were ever given?
Booker: Play fast, play hard, play smart.
What do you love about your sport?
Booker: The intensity of everything it gives me this rush of adrenaline that I love.
Do you have a pregame ritual you follow?
Booker: I always have to pray before a game. You can鈥檛 ever forgot to thank the Lord for even letting you be able to step on a field.
What do you like to do outside of your sport?
Booker: I like spending time with my loved ones.
What has being a member of a team taught you?
Booker: It鈥檚 taught me football isn鈥檛 just a 鈥渢eam鈥. It鈥檚 a family where everyone has everyone鈥檚 back and best interests in mind.
What is the best piece of advice you received from a coach or mentor?
Booker: 鈥淪top thinking so much and just have fun.鈥- Coach Bennit
Describe a mistake you made while competing and how you overcame it.
Booker: As a lineman, we all know the low man wins but I鈥檓 6鈥3 so I struggled to stay low.聽 At the next practice they told me to fire off, as if I was a jet, and even though it didn鈥檛 really make sense, it worked.
