Pope John Paul II volleyball team wins PIAA 3A state championship
ROYERSFORD, Pa. — The Pope John Paul II High School (PJP) volleyball team has a history of success. Over the years, the team has collected seven Pioneer Athletic Conference (PAC) Championships and eight District 1 3A Championships. However, this year just felt different.
鈥淲e have always had very talented players, but something about this team just felt different from the beginning of the season,聽 and it was just amazing,鈥 noted Head Coach Ryan Sell.
It certainly is amazing what the girls on the PJP Volleyball team accomplished this year. Not only did they win a PAC Championship, a District 1 3A Championship, and the first ever PIAA 3A State Championship in Volleyball for PJP. They did it all by going a perfect 27-0 on the season. Athletic Director Tracey Rarich added that this was the first time in school history that any team at PJP had won all three championships in one season.
Rarich and Sell attribute the success of the team to the players really being supportive of each other and staying positive throughout the four-month season. 鈥淎 big focus this year as an athletic department is sportsmanship, and a big part of that is team chemistry,” said Rarich. “The volleyball team this year just really clicked on every aspect of being a team.”
鈥淲e are so proud of every thing this team accomplished. We are sad to see our seniors go, but we know the team is left in good hands after this season,鈥 concluded Rarich.
