Meet San Juan Hills HS golfers Gracie Hawkins and Emma Shay
SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO, Calif. — Meet Gracie Hawkins and Emma Shay, freshman and varsity golfers at San Juan Hills High School. Both born and raised in Orange County, they met on the driving range at San Juan Hills Golf Club when they tried out for the team last fall.
Athletics are very competitive at SJHHS, and 14 girls were selected for the golf team. Emma was chosen for the varsity team from the start, and states, 鈥淚鈥檝e played golf most of my life, and meeting the other girls on my team has been the best part of the season.鈥
Gracie was invited to the varsity team after her impressive end-of-season tournament at Oso Creek during the final Seaview League championship, where SJHHS took second.
The blend of students from different towns is what makes so many OC schools phenomenal, and San Juan Hills High School is a perfect example of this circumstance.
Both vivacious teens, and good students, Gracie lives in Ladera Ranch, and Emma is from San Juan Capistrano; combined, they are quite the dazzling duo for their varsity team.
鈥淚鈥檝e made a lot of great, new friends this year,鈥 says Gracie, 鈥渁nd I love working hard for the team.鈥
Emma and Gracie don鈥檛 need mulligans, and one could certainly say they both have a lot of 鈥渄rive.鈥 Emma鈥檚 best score this year was an impressive 73, and Gracie鈥檚 was a respectable 85. Both girls are multi-faceted in sports, as Emma is rad on a surfboard, and Gracie is a tough-cookie on the softball field. When asked why she didn鈥檛 go out for the surf team, Emma said, 鈥淭he golf season is at the same time; I had to choose one.鈥
After a successful first year of chips and putts, both girls strive for a hole-in-one, and they each have three more years to achieve just that. If you run into them on the links, just be sure to say hello quietly, so you don鈥檛 mess up their shots.
