East Lincoln football wins NCHSAA 3A State Championship
DENVER, N.C. — East Lincoln started the season ranked high and soon showed they deserved to be. They started the season beating Hilbriten on the road, 36-8 and wouldn鈥檛 be scored against in the next 2 games. East outscored their 16 opponents 622 points to 109. The Defense was led by Ben Cutter who is a (West Virginia) recruit but the Defense played together as a team all year. Ben was also a dependable runner and punter. The offense was stellar all year with Tyler Mizzell (Wake Forest) leading the offense under center and Chris(Duece Daley) was very impressive running the ball as a sophomore. The Mustangs had a great core of receivers with Keandre Walker(Virginia}and聽 Markell Clark who took East to the house game after game.
The three Championship game standouts were Defensive MVP Ben Cutter, Offensive MVP Dre Walker and Game MVP Tyler Mizzell.
These boys have been playing together as a group since they were about 5 years old and the team spirit and camaraderie was amazing to watch
We all appreciate the effort it takes to win High School championships. Obviously, it takes endless workouts and practices for the team. What is often overlooked is the behind-the-scenes work of the equipment managers, assistants, band members, teachers, parents and volunteers. We can鈥檛 forget the cheer teams and of course our famous student section. They are the best TOO!!!
What I really enjoyed about this season was the community pride a Championship brings to the community. Backing our team really gained support of the community in a common cause and the crowd that traveled to Raleigh to watch at聽 NC State /Carter Finley stadium to watch the Championship game was just awesome. The game was not disappointing but was not without drama and suspense. After a quick score and East turnover, things looked like they were going North Nash鈥檚 way but East took over and the Defense controlled the 2nd half to bring home the Win!!! North Nash scored at the end of regulation and that made it look closer than it was.
We are so proud of each and every one of you.

We acknowledge there are many others who worked tirelessly for months and deserve much credit as well. We can鈥檛 list them all but we appreciate each one of you. You all are such an underappreciated group who contribute so much time and effort and thank you all.
State Championships do not come along very often and everyone should be very proud of our East Lincoln Mustang Nation. We celebrate your accomplishments and look forward to following some of you on Saturdays next year. We will never forget the season of 2022! Thank You ALL!!!!!!
