Saint James School football wins AHSAA 3A State Championship
MONTGOMERY, Ala. — During the 50th year of Trojan football, the Saint James Trojans won the 3A State Championship at Jordan-Hare Stadium on Thursday, December 1 against the Piedmont Bulldogs with a score of 45-28. This is the first state championship title in school history, and the first for coach Jimmy Perry.聽
This championship season also saw other firsts. This season set a school record with 13 wins and only 2 losses. Quarterback KJ Jackson was named MVP for the championship game with his record-setting performance. His 93-yard touchdown pass to senior Ethan Beard during the championship game was the longest touchdown pass in school history. KJ had 42 touchdown passes in 2022 which added to his 87 career touchdown passes 鈥 both set new school records.聽
Jackson had several teammates who scored during the championship win. Seniors Ethan Beard and Cosner Harrison, along with juniors Ziggy Holloway and Clint Houser were all instrumental in helping get the ball across the goal line.聽
After the game, Jimmy Perry said, 鈥淚t only took me 43 years to get a championship! I鈥檝e been blessed and it鈥檚 been a great journey with this program. This moment was the sweetest of them all.鈥
