O鈥橰eilly was selected with the No. 14 overall pick in the 1971 NHL Amateur Draft. He recorded 27 points in his second season. He also led the Bruins as captain from 1983-85. O鈥橰eilly recorded 606 points (204 goals and 402 assists) in Boston.
His career came to a close in 1985, and to this day, he鈥檚 considered one of the toughest hockey players to hit the ice. O鈥橰eilly coached the Bruins from 1986-89, where he led the team to the postseason for three straight years.聽
The franchise retired his No. 24 jersey in 2002.
