Q&A with St. Patrick HS football player Kevin Ward

CHICAGO — Kevin Ward, a St. Patrick High School senior and St. Juliana graduate, is a member of the varsity football team, just as his uncles and father were at St. Pat’s.
Do you have any pre-game or post-game rituals or superstitions?

Kevin Ward: Pizza Night the night before every game with my dad.

Who’s someone you look up to or consider a role model?

Ward: Coach Mertens (Head Football Coach Luke Mertens) is a role model because he shows us what being a football player, athlete and man means inside and outside of football. My dad is someone I look up to because he has always been there for me.

If you won the lottery, what would you do with the money?

Ward: Give back to my parents.

Where do you see yourself in five years? 10 years?

Ward: I see myself graduating college and pursuing a career in Criminal Justice.

How’d you get into football?

Ward: My grade school, St. Juliana, had a flag football team called the Illini. (photo attached with his dad)

If you could play any other sport, what would it be and why?

Ward: Basketball because it’s our winningest sport at St. Pat’s and I would like to be a part of that team.

What’s one thing people don’t know about you?

Ward: I like to go fishing with聽my friends and my dad.

What’s been your favorite memory at St. Pat’s?

Ward: The home playoff game last year vs. Rochelle. There were so many people at that game there to support our team.

What’s one thing on your bucket list?

Ward: Grand Canyon.
