Middletown HS volleyball team holds Points for Paws event

MIDDLETOWN, Md. — The Middletown High School volleyball team organized a 鈥淧oints for Paws鈥 benefit match in late October to collect donations for the Animal Welfare League of Frederick County. The AWLFC promotes the humane treatment of all animals through education, advocacy, and collaboration with other humane organizations, and is the county鈥檚 largest all-volunteer, no-kill animal rescue and welfare organization. Prior to the event, the team made posters and decorated the gym. Coach Jaime Pryor had t-shirts made with a collage of photos of the team members’ pets.

鈥淲e were able to go to the local shelter and take pictures with the cats,鈥 said team co-captain Carlee Darden.

Attendees of the event were given free admission if they brought items such as pet toys, cat tunnels, treats, food, flea medication, pet sweaters, and bedding. The team collected three large tubs of donations, and additionally some people sent donations directly to the AWLFC. The team also encouraged people to check out the animals available for adoption on the AWLFC or Knights Volleyball Facebook pages.

Co-captain Jordan Pryor said, 鈥淭here was a good amount donated that definitely helped the welfare center and was much appreciated. It was fun to do a fundraiser that was different and fun for us to support animals!鈥
