Leetch quickly made a name for himself in the NHL after capturing the , an annual award given to the best player in his first year of competition in the NHL, during the 1988-89 season with 71 points (23 goals and 48 assists). Leetch also solidified his legacy by winning the , an award given to the NHL鈥檚 best defensive player, in 1992 and 1997. Leetch currently holds the Rangers’ all-time assists record with 741 and is second in Rangers鈥� history with 981 points.聽
Leetch played 1,129 games, second only to Harry Howell, who played in 1,160 games for the Rangers.聽
His No. 2 jersey was retired by the team in 2008, and he was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2009.
