Touted as 鈥淢r. Ranger,鈥 Gilbert spent 18 seasons with the team and was the franchise鈥檚 first player to have his number retired. He was then inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1982.
Additionally, Gilbert is the only player in Rangers鈥 history to have over 1,000 points, and he was the longest-tenured 鈥淏lueshirt鈥 ever. He still holds the franchise record for goals scored with 406.
Hall of Famer Rod Gilbert has passed away at the age of 80. Gilbert is the New York Rangers franchise leader in goals (406) and the only Rangers player with over 1,000 points.
Gilbert's #7 was also the first retired number in franchise history.
