Q&A with Oxford HS football player Alex Sanford
OXFORD, Miss. — Oxford High School senior linebacker Alex Sanford announced his commitment to Arkansas on social media in June by posting an image of himself in an Arkansas uniform with a graphic saying 鈥淚鈥檓 a Hog鈥� in the background.
Talk about your season so far:
Alex Sanford: I mean the season has been going really wacky. A little slow. We have had our ups and down but we are just trying to go to state.聽
What are some things you feel like you have gotten better at this year?聽
Sanford: I feel like better at my tackling. I got more aggressive and lower.聽
What are some things you are continuing to work on?聽
Sanford: I really want to work on my angles and my drops. Working on myself and coverage.聽
What position are you playing this year and what position did you play last year?聽
Sanford: I played defensive end and mike linebacker last year but this year I am playing just about everywhere in the box. I am playing one technique, a three technique, I am playing mike. I am doing all of that stuff this year.聽
What is your size this year?聽
Sanford: 230, 6鈥�2.
Are you still committed to Arkansas?聽
Sanford: 驰别蝉.听
So tell me how that鈥檚 going?
Sanford: It’s going good. I am still getting a lot of love from them.聽
Have you had a chance to visit over there or catch a game this fall?聽
Sanford: Not yet but I should be there next week.聽
Talk about what you liked about Arkansas to give them that commitment.聽
Sanford: I like the family environment they have. When I went up there for my official visit all the players were coming back to me like I was their little brother. They were taking me under their wing saying, 鈥楬ey, you need to do this. I saw your film, you could do better on that.鈥� The coaches too. The coaches all made it feel like it was a brotherhood environment and that鈥檚 what I really like because that reminded of the Oxford Chargers. That brotherhood.聽
Who鈥檚 recruiting for Arkansas?聽
Sanford: Coach Scherer.
What did they recruit you to play?聽
Sanford: Mid-linebacker.
Any other schools staying in contact with you?聽
Sanford: Auburn is recruiting me heavily. They are trying to get me to flip.聽
What is Auburn telling you?
Sanford: They have been telling me I can make an impact. Be a big game changer for them.聽
Have you have a chance to go there and catch a game or anything?
Sanford: Yes, I went up there when they played LSU.
What did you like about it up there?聽
Sanford: The environment. You know they gave the same environment that Arkansas did.聽
What鈥檚 giving Arkansas the edge throughout the whole thing though?聽
Sanford: All of the love and attention they give me.聽
