Fort Loramie HS Cheer Team brings positive energy

FORT LORAMIE, Ohio — Friday night lights wouldn鈥檛 be the same without the positive energy from the Fort Loramie Varsity Cheer Team. From their encouraging chants to their impressive tumbling skills, these cheerleaders know how to get the crowd excited. This year the squad is composed of 12 girls and their coach, Whitney Bettinger.

Whitney has been coaching cheerleading at Fort Loramie for the past four years and loves being able to support the school and its students.

鈥淐heerleading provides individuals with an opportunity to showcase skills while promoting positivity and support,鈥 Bettinger says.

She鈥檚 very passionate about coaching and enjoys being involved in the lives of her cheerleaders. The team spends a lot of time together, from practices to making signs for the hallways, and of course, Friday night football games.

Coach Bettinger loves being able to support the members of her squad. 鈥淚 get to be there when they learn a new skill, make mistakes and provide them support, or just be there as they grow into young adults.鈥

The dynamic of the team in one filled with positivity and support. Each member is motivated to perform their best and constantly improve their skills.

鈥淭he current and past cheerleaders I鈥檝e had the opportunity to meet and work with hold themselves to the highest expectations,鈥 Bettinger says. They don鈥檛 just want to be good, they strive to be great!鈥

All of their practice leads up to the most anticipated element of cheerleading鈥損erforming at the games. Each cheerleader plays an active role in creating an engaging atmosphere at sporting events.

鈥淭hey are expected to call eight cheers every game, or two per quarter,鈥 Coach Bettinger tells us. 鈥淚f you do the math, that is a total of 96 cheers every game!鈥

Fort Loramie sophomore Audrey Wrasman is a member of the Varsity squad and shares what she loves most about being a cheerleader for Fort Loramie.

鈥淢y favorite thing about being on a team is that you鈥檙e all in it together,鈥 Wrasman says. 鈥淲e celebrate each other’s successes and we pick each other up when we鈥檙e having rough days. We鈥檙e like a little family in rhinestones.鈥

The outlook for the future of the squad is filled with promise. The team is excited for what lies ahead of them.

鈥淲e are hoping to get back into competing this year and are looking at the Game Day division, ” Coach Bettinger says. 鈥淭he squad enjoys putting on our Little Cheer fundraiser each year and looks forward to having their second one during Basketball season. We would also love to be more involved in the community and are open to helping at local events.鈥

There are undoubtedly so many wonderful components the Fort Loramie Cheer Team provides for their community. You can find them under glittering stadium lights and promoting positive messages around the school鈥搕ruly a one-of-a-kind group of athletes.
