Webb girls cross country team wins Knoxville Interscholastic League Championship
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Webb鈥檚 cross-country head coach, Bobby Holcombe, says the women鈥檚 victory on Saturday, Oct. 8 at the KIL (Knoxville Interscholastic League Championship) was the first since 2018.
鈥淭he women鈥檚 team won overall,鈥� Holcombe said. 鈥淭hey鈥檙e 5K cross-country champions. It鈥檚 the first time since 2018 that we won. I think Farragut had been winning the previous years.鈥�
Coach Holcombe believes the win is partly due to the team鈥檚 hard work ethic. This year’s team includes Jaazzlyn Garmer, Anna Graves, Calysta Garmer, Lauren Davis, Avery Krishnan, Huxley McCollum and Anna Kate Autry.
鈥淭hey made a pretty good commitment to start training as soon as the season started on June 13. We had camp at Picket State Park and I think that really brought the team together. They鈥檙e really supportive of each other on and off the field. They鈥檙e the kind of team that does the little things we ask, in addition to the big things. They鈥檙e really internally competitive and enjoy competing.
In addition to coaching cross-country at Webb School of Knoxville, Holcombe also trains adults at Knoxville Endurance.
