Get to know Byron Nelson HS football player Jake Wilson

TROPHY CLUB, Texas — Byron Nelson High School senior Jake Wilson tells us he has deep roots in Trophy Club. 鈥淢y parents grew up in Trophy Club and attended high school in the district. They wanted to raise a family where they grew up and always ensured we were involved in the community. I went to elementary school at Beck and middle school at Medlin.鈥

Getting Started

I鈥檝e always played sports since I was three years old. My mom says she originally got me involved in sports to burn off my energy. I played soccer, baseball, football, basketball, and track. I started playing football through Bobcat Youth football when I was in second grade. I continued playing all sports through middle school. I received the “Athlete of the year” award at Medlin middle school as a 7th grader and the “Football Player of the Year” award at Medlin as an 8th grader. I continued to play basketball at Byron during my freshman and sophomore years. Still, I decided to focus only on football in my junior year. I have been the varsity quarterback at Byron Nelson for three seasons. My first varsity game was against Southlake in my sophomore year.

Achievements

In sports, I would have to say my “Offensive Player of the Year” award for the district in my junior year made me proud. I also am proud of my “Newcomer of the Year” award for the district during my sophomore year. The Academic All-District awards I received are vital because it shows I can manage school and sports. Also, last year our team as a whole went three rounds deep in the TX 6A playoffs losing by one touchdown to Denton Guyer, and I am very proud of that.

Teammates

I think it is essential to be respectful to teammates. I do that well, and I believe I am kind and an effective leader. My teammates voted me Team Captain this year, which means a lot to me.

Sports Hero

Drew Brees because of his character and team-first attitude.

Teams & College

My favorite team is Notre Dame. I’ve always been a big fan of the Irish. I’m not sure where I will go to college yet, but I hope to play football somewhere.

Rituals

I like to wear my headphones and listen to music on the way to games. I also wear the same undershirt under my jersey.

School

My favorite subject in school is Earth and Space science with Coach Johnson. I like teachers and coaches who are humorous and easygoing. I have a good relationship with all my teachers at school.
