Port Aransas Preservation and Historical Association hosts annual Port A Surf Fest
PORT ARANSAS, Texas — The Port Aransas Preservation and Historical Association sponsored the 11th annual Port A Surf Fest on September 24th. Surf categories included Groms (kids 16 and under), men, women and seniors. Probably the most popular category of surfers to view was the canine group. Yes there were a number of surfing dogs with their owners helping and encouraging them.
Before this year, the Surf Fest had been a part of the Old Town Festival, but it was a stand-alone event this year. 鈥淧ort A Days鈥 is coming on November 5th, which will include a parade, chili cook off and historical 海角社区 of the town. By separating the events, more crowds can be in attendance at each respective venue.
Registration for the Surf Fest began at 7 AM, with surfing competitions starting at 8 AM. After a day of riding waves, the surfers were treated to a fun and relaxing evening. There was a fish fry and live music at the Surfside Lounge in Port Aransas. M Ocean and Ocean Roots provided a mix of reggae and surf music, which was appropriate for the crowd.
The weather couldn鈥檛 have been better for the Surf Fest and the waves weren鈥檛 huge, but manageable. A great crowd of surfers and onlookers alike thoroughly enjoyed this event and look forward to the 2023 event next September.
