Longmeadow HS boys lacrosse team prepares for season after state championship
LONGMEADOW, Mass. — One overtime wasn鈥檛 enough to settle the MIAA Division II Boys Lacrosse State Championship this past June. But on the opening possession of the second overtime, Coleson Hanrahan scored the decisive goal that gave the Lancers the 9-8 win in a back and forth finale at Worcester State University, capping a 23-1 mark in the regular season.
鈥淟ast season ended with the memory of a lifetime, and all we can hope to do is replicate that in whatever fashion we can,鈥� said coach Keith Campbell.
Coach Campbell, former LHS lacrosse player (class of 1982), has been the Longmeadow Boys Head Lacrosse Coach since 2015, and has logged more than 25 years of coaching experience. While Campbell has coached professionally, he enjoys the unique opportunities that mentoring high school athletes present.
鈥淚 love helping in the development of the players so they can use what they learn on the field and translate it from sports to academic success,鈥� he said.
The 2023 squad will be missing upwards of 10 departing seniors, but is returning 24 players from last year鈥檚 varsity roster. Of the departing seniors, five have plans to play in college, with one receiving an offer from a D1 university. Of the returning champs, four rising seniors are already committed to playing in college.
School is back in session, and while the spring season and lacrosse practices are months away, Campbell is excited about defending the Division II title, about helping his seniors find great colleges, and sharing his approach – one day and one game at a time. He is proud of his squad, 鈥淸Our players] work really hard, and are great leaders – they do a great job with the team.鈥�
