Top 10 North Carolina QBs for 2022 HS football season
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (BVM) — The state of North Carolina has seen some great quarterback play at the collegiate level in 2022 with Drake Maye at UNC and Devin Leary at NC State. But there are also many talented gunslingers at the prep level as well.
Here are the top 10 high school quarterbacks in the state of North Carolina:
10. Jack Mercer, Sr., Northern Guilford
The 6-foot-2, 190-pound QB is off to a strong start for his senior campaign, throwing for over 1,000 yards with 10 touchdowns, while adding 250 yards and three touchdowns on the ground through 3 games. The Nighthawks are off to a 2-1 start to the year thanks to the play of their senior signal-caller.
9. Iggy Welch, Sr., Erwin
Erwin got off to a slow start in 2021, but Welch was able to step up his play and lead the Warriors to the postseason. Now in 2022, Welch has not missed a beat with 1,025 passing yards thus far through four games, along with a 12-3 touchdown-to-interception ratio.
8. Javier Rice, Jr., Asheville Christian
Rice has had a strong start to his junior season, already emerging as one of the top in-state quarterbacks. After throwing for 1,215 yards as a sophomore, he is already close to surpassing that just 4 games in, currently sitting at 1,044.
7. Will Modlin, Jr., Bartlett Yancey
The Buccaneers’ offense has looked spectacular thus far four games into the season. The lowest point total that Bartlett Yancey has put up in a game is 36. That’s thanks to the efficiency of their junior quarterback. Modlin has thrown for 1,049 yards with 15 touchdowns already in 2022.
6. AJ Sirianni, Sr., CSD
Sirianni continues to lead the Community School of Davidson’s air raid offense, racking up 1,050 passing yards with 12 touchdowns. The Spartans finished 2021 with a perfect conference record and with the play of their senior quarterback, that should be on the table once again in 2022.
5. Mason Fortune, Jr., Millbrook
Fortune had a breakout year as a sophomore in 2021 with 3,137 yards and 40 touchdowns. In 2022, he is already on pace to have another monster year. The Raleigh native has 1,237 passing yards, 14 touchdowns and only two interceptions through four games thus far.
4. Daylin Lee, Sr., Shelby
Through four games of the 2022 season, Lee is the state’s leader in passing yards with 1,277. He has also racked up 15 touchdowns paired with a 69% completion rate. Lee led the state at the conclusion of the 2021 season as well with 3,837 passing yards.
3. Lex Thomas, Sr., Heritage
The 5-foot-11, 193 pound QB committed to NC State in July 2021. He showed the Wolfpack fans what they were getting the following season by throwing for 2,492 yards with 30 touchdowns. Thomas is a 3-star recruit and is the No. 36 quarterback in the country according to .
2. Tad Hudson, Sr., William Amos Hough
Hudson committed to North Carolina in August 2021 after leading his high school team to the second round of the playoffs as a sophomore. Hudson is in his class.
