What are your personal goals within your sport/athletic dreams?
Kate Drummond: I hope to pursue a running career in college as well as excel at the high school state level alongside my team.
What is your biggest challenge in your sport, and what do you do to manage this challenge?
Drummond: My biggest challenge within this sport is being able to push through the hard days and realize that not every day is going to be amazing. To manage this, I try to make practice fun while also not overanalyzing what I do every day.
What was the best advice you were ever given?
Drummond: The best advice I have ever been given is to trust that God has a plan for me and to do things for his glory and not my own.
What do you love about your sport?
Drummond: I love the people that this sport has brought into my life as well as the rush of competitiveness that I cannot get anywhere else.
Do you have a pregame ritual you follow?
Drummond: I do not have much of a “pregame ritual”. I tend to do the same stretches and warm-up, but not much other than that.
What do you like to do outside of your sport?
Drummond: Outside of my sport I am very involved in my school鈥檚 student government while also trying to focus on my classes. I also play the violin.
What have you learned about being part of a team?
Drummond: My team is a special group of people that has taught me a lot about being a leader. Over the last year, my team worked hard to become close and they have taught me that when people come together with a common goal in mind, they can do great things. This team has also taught me what it means to have each other鈥檚 back and to never give up on one another.
What is the best piece of advice you received from a coach or mentor?
Drummond: The best advice I was ever given from a coach is that you get better on the days when no one else is working.
Describe a mistake you made while competing and how you overcame it.
Drummond: A mistake I have made many times while competing is giving up on myself. I have gotten so far into races and then when one thing goes wrong, I have given up instead of fighting through the rough parts. I am not sure if I have fully overcome this, but I try to focus on the positives a lot of the time in order to talk myself out of this.
