Get to know Alexandria Senior HS football player Josh Marie
ALEXANDRIA, La. — For Josh Marie, football鈥檚 demands and lessons mirror those he鈥檚 learned in life. 鈥淵ou can鈥檛 win on your own,鈥 Marie says. Working together and developing skills along the way has forged a brotherhood among his fellow teammates. This bond has solidified a shared mindset that transcends wins and losses.聽 Marie, a 17-year-old senior, serves as a team captain and plays cornerback on the ASH Trojan Football team. He鈥檚 an aggressive athlete who plays with emotion and determination. According to Marie, what sets him apart is his: willingness to work hard, ability to withstand the coaching, and the want to absorb all the feedback.
His biggest challenge as a captain is 鈥渒eeping the team鈥檚 confidence up and the momentum strong,鈥 Marie says. He calls on the guidance he receives from coaches to help him power through practices and games. 鈥淐oach Bachman magnifies the basics; we鈥檙e taught to respect every position on the field and every opponent on the schedule鈥, Marie says. Like his teammates and coaches, his family has helped mold him into the athlete he is today. 鈥淢y parents set a high standard for my siblings and me. They鈥檙e 100% honest and show me tough love. They鈥檙e also the people who believe in me the most and want the best for me,鈥 Marie says. Marie鈥檚 tenacious spirit is evidenced in his decision to join the military to maximize his opportunities after high school. 鈥淢y aspiration is to play football at the collegiate level, but I also want to explore every option,鈥 Marie says. After two of his siblings pursued careers in the military, Marie wanted to continue this family tradition.
During his training over the summer, Marie completed the Army Combat Fitness Test and scored a 598 out of a possible 600 points. 鈥淚 was upset that I didn鈥檛 get a perfect score, but it was the best score in my company,鈥 Marie says. 鈥淚 will always want to perfect my craft, and I鈥檓 thankful to have coaches and people in my life to help me do that,鈥 Marie says. His charismatic personality makes him a standout student-athlete. Marie hopes this season for the Trojans is one where he makes his mark as a leader and as a player. According to him, 鈥淚f it鈥檚 easy, you don鈥檛 want it.
