Haddonfield Memorial HS prepares for new athletic seasons

HADDONFIELD, N.J. — Following a stellar season, Haddonfield Memorial High School (HMHS) teams are poised and ready as the fall season gets underway.

For the 18th consecutive year, the athletic program HMHS has been honored with the Shop Rite Cup for outstanding high school athletics. Presented jointly by Shop Rite and the NJSIAA, the state’s governing body for high school athletics, recognizes not only athletic achievement but also sportsmanship. Our 18-year run of winning this special award is a reflection of both our coaching staff and our athletes. Whether we end a season as champions or not, our student-athletes always aim for top performance and learn important lessons from the discipline and dedication that comes from athletic competition. Our ’21-’22 season had many highlights, including a New Jersey Group I State Championship for our girls’ lacrosse team. Girls Track and Field were Group II South Jersey Champs and solid performances by our crew team, golf team, and boys’ lacrosse and tennis teams rounded out an excellent spring season for the Haddons.

Statewide HS Athletic Changes

There are some changes afoot for high school athletics this year. The NJSIAA has eliminated Tournament of Champions competition. This year, teams that win their group state titles will end the season as champions. However, prior to this season, football teams finished their season with regional group play off games, like the game at Rutgers last year when Haddonfield bested Point Pleasant to be named Group II state champions. New Jersey will no longer hold post-season bowl games but, instead, extend the season one more week for state group championship games. Stay tuned! We wish our football, field hockey, cross country, soccer teams and girls’ tennis team a safe and successful season!
