Corey Knebel represents Georgetown High School at MLB level
GEORGETOWN, Texas (BVM) — Georgetown alum Corey Knebel has been pitching for an MLB team since 2014. And this year was no different, but a tear in his shoulder capsule forced Knebel to miss the rest of the 2022 season.
Before the start of the 2022 season, Knebel signed a one-year, $10 million deal with the Philadelphia Phillies. And he was living up to the deal before the injury as he struck out 41 batters in 44â…” innings pitched and recorded 12 saves. Knebel also had an ERA of 3.43.
Knebel has pitched for three other teams besides the Phillies: the Detroit Tigers, Milwaukee Brewers and Los Angeles Dodgers. Knebel was set on getting his career back on track and set to have one of the best seasons of his career earlier in 2022. Knebel’s best season came in 2017 with the Brewers when he’d make his only All-Star appearance of his career far with an ERA of 1.78, 39 saves and 126 strikeouts in 76 innings of work.

Now, being on a one-year deal, players like Knebel could find it difficult to prove themselves. But Knebel has been proving he can pitch at a high level. The first time he proved that was at Georgetown High School where he posted a 9-2 record and earned first-team all-district honors.
Knebel then went on to play for the Texas Longhorns where he pitched for three seasons, recording an ERA of 2.08 with 37 saves in 169 ⅓ innings. One of Knebel’s top accomplishments came during his freshman year when he tied the school’s single-season save record (19) set by J. Brent Cox and Charlie Thames.
Knebel’s time at Texas helped him get drafted 39th overall in the 2013 MLB Draft, and since then, he has been completing on baseball’s biggest stage. Now Knebel is eyeing to recover and be back on the mound for the 2023 MLB season.Â
