Bloomington HS hosts girls tennis Purple Invitational tournament
BLOOMINGTON, Ill. — Bloomington High School hosted twelve schools for the Purple Invitational this past Saturday, September 10, 2022. The schools that competed included Alton, Belleville West, Bloomington Central Catholic, Champaign Central, Danville, Downers Grove South, Dunlap, Effingham Saint. Anthony, Morton, Normal Community, Normal West, and Peoria Richwoods.
The invitational consisted of two singles flights and three doubles flights. Downers Grove South won the invitational followed by Normal Community, Dunlap, and then Danville. Some local finishers included Ashley Walls (NCHS) won against Marley Schrof (NCWHS) for third place.
In the first doubles flight semi finals, Normal community won over Danville and Bloomington High School won over Downers Grove South. In the finals, Normal Community’s Anna Mayes and Kruthi Sudhir edged out Bloomington’s Mariel and Gabby Runyan.
In the second doubles flight, Normal Community’s Reese Michaels and Ivy George won against Morton for third place.
Lastly in the third doubles flight, Normal Community’s Marissa Change and Lauren Smurlo took the third place win over Downers Grove South.
