Top 5 most expensive college football upsets
1. Appalachian State vs. Texas A&M – $1.5 million (2022)
After just missing out on a thrilling upset in its season opener against North Carolina, Appalachian State upset No. 6-ranked Texas A&M on the 15-year anniversary of its upset win against Michigan. At the time of the win against Michigan, the $400,000 that the Mountaineers were paid by the Wolverines to beat them was a huge talking point around the upset. This time, the Aggies paid Appalachian State $1.5 million to head down to College Station. The Mountaineers were 18-point underdogs but ended up winning 17-14 after Texas A&M missed the game–tying field goal with 3:43 left in the fourth quarter.
