Get to know Dothan football player, junior Ke鈥橝viyon Durry
DOTHAN, Ala. — What started out as a fun sport in the City of Dothan Youth Football League has turned in to serious football for a Dothan High School junior. Ke鈥橝viyon Durry now lines up at cornerback for the Wolves defense and he loves it.
Last year 鈥淒urry鈥� as he is affectionately known, played wide receiver. He asked to move to defense. He said, 鈥溾�淚 always loved defense. It is my passion and I feel like that is where it is at.鈥� He said the Wolves defense plays man-to-man and some zone, but his favorite is man-to-man. 鈥淚 like man-to-man better because I can just lock in on one guy.鈥�
Durry is very excited about his team and coaches, especially Coach Jed Kennedy. He said, 鈥淭he team is just different. Everybody is all in. Coach Kennedy says that we can be great and we believe it. He says it is not about you, it is about the team.鈥� Durry believes that everyone is starting to buy in to the Wolves Football team as evidenced by the 鈥渃ommunity coming to our games鈥� and the student section. 鈥淲e have a good student section. I feel like people are pulling for us,鈥� Durry said.
Ke鈥橝viyon is the son of Tiffany Dawson and Dennis Durry. He is the oldest of his three sisters and one brother. Referring to his siblings he said, 鈥溾�淓verything that I do, they are looking at me. I feel like I am a good role model for them.鈥� Durry also plays basketball for the Wolves and is very complimentary of new coach, Jeremy Bynum.
Coach Kennedy said, 鈥淒urry has shown tremendous growth for us both on & off the field. He is extremely athletic and is one of the best cover corners I have ever been around. I look forward to what his future holds鈥�
Durry definitely wants to play football in college. He was impressed that Coach Kennedy brought in some college coaches during spring practice to check out Dothan players. I asked him what his long term plan is and Durry said, 鈥淭he NFL鈥nd I don鈥檛 have a backup plan right now, so I hope the NFL works out.鈥�
I ended our conversation with one question, 鈥淲hat do you like best about football.鈥� Durry responded with one word, 鈥淓verything!鈥�
