Catching up with Huntington and Paint Valley HS graduates Logan and Laci Chaney
CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — It has been nearly a decade since Logan Chaney and Laci Stanforth were flying through the air clearing record-setting pole vault heights. Despite these two superb athletes wearing the rival colors with Logan at Huntington and Laci at Paint Valley, the couple would eventually get married in 2017.
Logan was an outstanding athlete for Huntington. In football, he was named SVC Special Teams Player of the Year in 2012. That same year, he earned First Team All-District and Special Mention All-Ohio. His track accomplishments were off the charts. In 2010, 2012, and 2013, he was All-Ohio in the pole vault. His 14鈥8鈥 in the 2013 Regionals broke the school and Regional record. He also broke the SVC league record (a record that was held for nearly a decade before being passed this past spring by Westfall鈥檚 Tyler Shipley who cleared 14鈥4鈥).聽
For Laci, she was a four-sport star for the Lady Bearcats. In volleyball, she helped her squad to a 2013 Sectional championship. In the winter, she was a four-time All-League basketball selection, and in her senior season, she earned All-District honors. In the spring, Stanforth was completely 鈥渘ext level鈥 as she took on the challenge of doing softball and track at the same time. In track, she was a three-time District champion in the pole vault, and she received All-Ohio honors in the event in 2013. She set the school record clearing nine feet. As for softball, she was an All-League shortstop who helped Paint Valley to the OHSAA Final Four in 2014.聽
鈥淚 remember the most about spending time with my teammates and learning to be a team player,鈥 said Laci, when asked to recall her most vivid memories from her high school playing days. 鈥漎our teammates pretty much become family after spending so much time together.鈥
After high school, Laci played softball for the University of Rio Grande, where she was a member of the 2016 River States Conference regular season and tournament champions. She graduated with an Associates Degree in Applied Science.聽
Today, the couple still lives locally and have two kids: Hudson, 3 and Holden, 1. Laci is a Sonographer at Adena Medical Center and Logan is an Assembly Specialist at Kenworth. Even though the pole vaulting days are behind them, it is obvious they both feel that sports are an important part of helping young kids develop.聽
鈥淪ports are important for kids because it teaches responsibility and dependability,鈥 the couple said, when we talked about the importance of kids being involved in something extracurricular. 鈥淪ports teach kids to be a part of something and gives them a community to rely on, which helps kids become successful adults.鈥
