1. Larry Fitzgerald, WR, Academy of Holy Angels
Fitzgerald, known for having more career tackles than drops, is the best NFL football player to come out of the Twin Cities. The Minneapolis native attended high school at Academy of Holy Angels, where he was a two-time all-state wide receiver. Following a year at Valley Forge Military Academy, Fitzgerald started his college career at Pitt. As a Panther, he had back-to-back 1,000-yard receiving seasons, the first in school history to ever do it. In 2003, he had 92 receptions for 1,672 yards and 22 touchdowns. That same year, Fitzgerald was a unanimous All-American, Biletnikoff Award winner, Walter Camp Award winner and was second in Heisman Trophy voting. Considered one of the best collegiate receivers in the country, he went third overall in the 2004 NFL Draft to the Arizona Cardinals. Fitzgerald then began a 17-year career in which he became one of the greatest wide receivers in NFL history. He was an 11-time Pro Bowler, one-time first-team All-Pro and was named the . During the 2008 postseason, he set NFL single postseason records with 30 receptions for 546 yards and seven touchdowns. Fitzgerald retired in 2020 with 1,432 receptions for 1,7492 and 121 touchdowns. It is widely believed he will be a first ballot hall of famer when he is eventually eligible.
