First antelope hunt for Spring Creek area resident Paige Martinez
SPRING CREEK, Nev. — On the morning of August 29, 2021 I got my Sitka gear ready for an exciting day of hunting. Wearing my camo was my favorite parts until I actually shot my first ever animal. Yes this was my first hunt and I wasn鈥檛 quite sure how I was going to do or if I was going to like it. As the day went on, we were only seeing smaller antelope. Knowing this was my last day hunting I was starting to realize this wasn鈥檛 going to be my year until we finally saw a big guy. Although I was super excited at first, he was too far away to get a good shot. We decided to stay in the general area and luckily came across him again. This time he was closer so we decided to take a hike towards him. I was so thrilled that this could be my chance! Sadly, he got scared off. We hopped back into the truck and I accepted the fact that today wasn鈥檛 going to be my day.
Suddenly, while heading back after calling it a day the antelope took a turn towards us and I knew I was in luck! As I got ready to take a shot at him, I was shaking with excitement. Seconds later I pulled the trigger, BAM he dropped straight to the ground. A perfect 420-yard shot! I did it! I was so proud of myself and thankful for my friends and family who helped make it possible. The best part was having my husband and kids cheering me on. I鈥檓 so ecstatic that I have an animal of my own to mount on our wall now. I can鈥檛 wait for many more tags to fill throughout the years and share this wonderful hobby with my family.
