Q&A with four New Rochelle football players

NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. — New Rochelle High School is no stranger to success. Since finishing 4th in the state last year, New Rochelle’s football team has been focused on and off the field! Today we take a look at a few key players of the program, wide receiver/outside linebacker, Rastafari Anderson (JR), half back, Lee Hester, Jr. (JR), nose guard, Dei’ Shaun Benitez (SR), and center Luis Morales (SR), and get a glimpse of the tenacity of the team, which is shown in its community engagement, fellowship, and intensity.

What are you most excited about this season?

Rastafari Anderson: Always having the end in mind ( referring to being state champs). I want to continue to build a bond with my team.

Lee Hester, Jr.: Having fun, making my teammates better, working toward a common goal together.

What do you guys do as a team to build bonds?

Luis Morales: Push each other wherever we are, on the field, in the gym, in the classroom, or even a video game.

Dei’ Shaun Benitez: Just spending time with the guys, training together, eating together, bouncing ideas off each other to uplift each other!

How do you guys handle stress?

All: The overwhelming consensus here was to take a step back, collect ones thoughts, and then attack the situation again – never giving up! A few ways these athletes take time to collect their thoughts is listening to music, working out, or spending time with loved ones!

Do you have aspirations to compete on the college level?

All: ALL unanimously answered yes, and some have had a few looks from Boise State HBCU, Scared Heart University AND MORE!

What do you do to get back into a routine?

Anderson: I’m up every morning getting a workout in before team lifts, sometimes after as well!

Benitez: Fueling my body right before and after workouts is key.
