Waterloo West coaches preview upcoming fall seasons
WATERLOO, Iowa — The Wahawks have a lot going and are gearing up for a great fall sports season.聽 Let’s hear straight from the coaches on what they are excited for in their sport.
Boys Golf – Josh Barta
“Our guys are working hard and preparing to be as successful as they can during their Wahawk golf career!鈥�
Girls Cross Country – Caleb Burjes
“West High Cross Country has a young group of girls that are going to grow throughout the season as runners, students and community members. I’m looking forward to what they’ll achieve this season and in the coming years!鈥�
Football – Lonnie Moore
“We are really excited about the season. Our players have been working hard all off-season since January 3rd. We will be young and inexperienced at a lot of positions on the field, but have been improving everyday which helps with our tough 5A schedule. Our seniors have done a great job with their leadership and shown the younger players the Wahawk Way. Our coaching staff is very impressed with the way our players have adapted to some new things we have implemented this season and they are well ahead of schedule of where we thought we would be at this time of year. We still need to fine tune some adjustments in order to finalize our depth and positions before we play our crosstown rivals. Go Wahawks!鈥�
Volleyball – Ashley Berinobis
鈥淥ur girls have been working hard all summer at open gyms and camps and we are very excited for this season! Our season will look a little different this year without our home gym floor, but we are looking forward to playing at Hawkeye Community College. We have a lot of seniors and returning varsity players leading our younger players. Go Wahawks!”

“Our guys have been working extremely hard this summer and have been doing a phenomenal job so far in their training. We have a great group this fall that is hungry and eager to drop times and improve from race to race.鈥�
Girls Swimming – Jeff Kamp
“Expecting a good season. We had an athlete qualifying for state for six straight years. We have the returning state champion diver back and a big freshman class.鈥�
