Linn-Mar HS names听Tonya Moe new athletic director
MARION, Iowa — Tonya Moe has been selected as the new Athletic Director at Linn-Mar High School after being a member of the Linn-Marr Athletics team for going on 17 years. 听
“I love what I do every single day,鈥 Moe said. 鈥淚 don’t let the long hours or negative spectators deter me from enjoying student-athletes doing what they love. They are becoming better people through their sports which will stay with them the rest of their lives!鈥听
Moe鈥檚 sports career started in Decorah, where she graduated from high school in 1992. She attended Luther College and graduated with a B.A. in Physical Education & Health in 1996. I also was a member of the Luther Women鈥檚 basketball and softball teams.听
鈥淚 have no doubt that my high school and college days of playing sports helped prepare me for this job and who I am as a person today,鈥 Moe exclaims. 鈥淚 always encourage people to get involved and stay involved in as many things as you can!”听
She received her M.A. in Sports Science with an emphasis in Sports Coaching/Administration from the United States Sports Academy in Daphne, Alabama in 2003 and finished her second Master鈥檚 Degree in Educational Administration from Drake University in August 2010.听
鈥淚 taught in the Vinton-Shellsburg School District from 1997-2006 where I taught High School PE/Health for the first six years and was Activities Director for the last three years. I also coached softball, basketball and track.鈥听
In 2006, she started as Linn-Mar鈥檚 health instructor and was named Associate Athletic Director in 2009. Since then she has overseen volleyball, girls basketball, girls soccer, softball, cheerleading and Poms, as well as, the Linn-Mar Athletic Facilities.听
鈥”I am always looking for ways to continue to grow professionally so I can provide the best opportunities for our student-athletes, coaches and programs,鈥 Moe adds. 鈥疘n Spring 2020, she was also recognized as a certified athletic administrator by the National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association (NIAAA).听
鈥淭he certifications that the NIAAA offers athletic directors are fantastic and I wanted to take advantage of the opportunities that this organization offers. I hope to be able to implement what I have learned and also personally become a better leader.”听
In March 2022, she replaced David Brown, who has served as Athletic Director at Linn-Mar for the past six years.听听
