Get to know Miami Marlins prospect, Liberty HS alum Karson Milbrandt
LIBERTY, Mo. — On July 18th right-handed pitcher Karson Milbrandt was selected 85th overall in the 2022 MLB Draft by the Miami Marlins.聽The former Blue Jay baseball pitcher, ranked 90th in the MLB pre-draft prospect list, went early in the 3rd round. Karson is now ranked the #13th prospect overall in the Miami Marlins system. It was an amazing journey for Karson starting out as a Mizzou commit in 2019 to then moving to a Vanderbilt commit and signing with them his senior year.聽His game just kept elevating each year from when he first pitched for the Blue Jays in 2018 as a Freshman to Academic All-State and First Team All-State pitcher in 2021 and 2022.聽Winning a State Championship in 2021 to becoming the Missouri High School Gatorade Player of the Year in 2022. Karson鈥檚 career numbers were pretty amazing as well, posting an 18-3 W/L record with a 2.03 career ERA. Milbrandt in 106.2 innings pitched struck out 164 batters with opponents only hitting .186 against him.聽聽
There is another story other than the amazing feats Karson has accomplished. He comes from a great family, Chad and Tami Milbrandt raised him very well as Karson is a man of high character, is very humble and is a great person to be around. Full of life, he has been a joy to be around for four years leaving his mark on the community, school and baseball program during his time at Liberty.聽
A quick story about draft day tells you what type of person Karson is. He spent a portion of the morning at my house after being drafted and then spent time that evening coming back over again going over all the memories and celebrating his opportunity with major league baseball. Most kids would have other plans rather than spending time with one of their coaches after an event like that, but it meant the world to me, and I will be grateful forever to have had the opportunity to be a part of his journey.
