Get to know Jefferson football player Sammy Brown
JEFFERSON, Ga. — The 2022 football season is going to be big for Sammy Brown, a Junior linebacker at Jefferson High School. Sammy has caught the eye of several college programs and this season will be impactful for the recruiting cycle.
鈥淢y goal is to play football at a Division I, Power 5 University,鈥� says Sammy, 鈥渁nd then be a first-round draft pick in the NFL.鈥�
With 27 Division I offers, Sammy is well on his way to accomplishing that goal. The recruitment process at this level typically results in a signing in December of the athlete鈥檚 Senior year. That means Sammy is entering the home stretch for his decision and is evaluating all factors.
High on the priority list when selecting a university is a group of men who will develop Sammy as a player and person. Every school has nice facilities and all the bells and whistles, but people make the place, and to the Brown family that is what is most important.
Sammy cites his biggest challenge as 鈥渂alancing the demands of the sport with his academics.鈥� To handle this he sets goals, stays organized, and manages his time appropriately. Sammy knows that being a college athlete requires discipline and he is instilling those habits now. When he envisions life after football, Sammy wants to be a pediatrician. 鈥淚 just find it funny to think of this big, burly guy being a pediatrician,鈥� says his mom, Becca, with a laugh.
With the pressures of big-time ball, one must find time to unwind. Sammy likes hunting, fishing, riding 4-wheelers, playing Xbox, and spending time with friends. He is teaching himself to play guitar and, to his credit, remains a laid-back, even-keeled guy.
That鈥檚 why he is so likeable to his teammates and Sammy truly relishes being part of a team. 鈥淔ootball is the greatest team sport, a true brotherhood where each relies on the other to accomplish a common goal,鈥� he shares, 鈥淏eing on a team has taught me humility, how to embrace your role, how to work together towards a common goal, and how to overcome adversity.鈥�
As he enters his Junior season, Sammy is keeping things in perspective. He stays focused by mentally 鈥減laying鈥� the game before physically playing the game. In the off-season Sammy plans to continue wrestling and running track, two disciplines that add to his football arsenal of skills. We鈥檙e impressed with this well-rounded Jefferson sports-star!
